Student Nutrition

The Upper Canada Leger Centre for Education and Training is responsible for the administration of Healthy Eating for Better Learning (HEBL), a program supporting student nutrition across the regions of: Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell, Renfrew, and Leeds and Grenville and the Mohawk territory of Akwesasne.  Our team provides support, direction and funding to schools who offer nutrition programs in 8 different school districts, across more than 200 school and community program sites, serving more than 50,000 students every year!

Student Nutrition Programs supported by HEBL take place within schools and student programming sites to provide breakfast, or snack programs for students to ensure that all students have the nourishment they need to maximize their learning ability in the classroom.

Student Nutrition Programs (SNP) in Ontario are provincially led.  Ontario’s Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) supports Student Nutrition Programs  with funding for food and consumable supplies, as well as provides direction for program standards (guidelines) to ensure the quality of the programs.
